Reese Tuning EVO RS preparing for Dyno Shootout

by rtadmin 6. June 2010 02:09

As most of you know I am very busy and get to spend little time working on my own personal RS. Today I was able to take a little time and tune the car. Recently I have had the urge to make power on the new HTA86. The current set up is about 6 months old. The car has been sitting and has seen very little dyno time since the RTA event last year. Today I actually was very impressed with the results of the car considering.

The current setup of the car is as follows:

 BR 2.0L
 BR double pumper
 BR fuel rail
 BR FF HTA86
BR FMIC rear entry street core
 BR LICP kit
 BR UICP kit
 Reese Tuning Rev3 Intake Manifold
 Reese Tuning Race cylinder head
 BF272 cam
 PTE1200cc injectors
 MIL.SPEC 65mm throttle body
 Exedy twin HD clutch
 AEM EMS
 Stock Exhaust/ Cutout

The car is pretty basic as far as the mods are concerned This build is no different than the customer cars we build here. The RS is a very simple car. Very straight forward and pretty basic. It really is, don't be deceived by the nice wheels and clean paint. I do take very well of the car and it is well kept.

I absolutely love how good this car has been to me. Never caused any issues other than when I ran it to the ground in Nevada at Spring Mountain. It has been very reliable and anxious to make power, always!

So on to the tuning portion. Since tomorrow we are having the big dyno day and expecting to see some of the big dog cars come out. I decided I would have to tune my car as well. Everyone makes 780 whp at 22 psi. Why can't I? Well I can't. Turns out my RS is not capable of that. But what she was capable of was 705awhp and 560 tq at 39psi.

Here is the graph from earlier today. Keep in mind this is with a 272 cam.

Peak boost was 39psi, AFR was 12.2. All tuning, work and installs were done here at Reese Tuning.

 Enjoy,

 James Reese

BBK Full, Ethanol, Reese Tuning *UPDATED*

by rtadmin 3. June 2010 18:49

Here is a recent car we just finished. This car is owned locally and is one of the nicest, well taken care of EVO's I have seen in a long time.

All work and tuning was done here @ Reese Tuning. The mod list is as follows:

  EVO 9 MR
  OEM Long Block
  AEM Short Ram intake
  Cosworth M2 Cams
  ARP Headstuds
  ETS FMIC Street Core
  Invidia 02 Housing
  BBK Full
  3 port solenoid
  TBE with test pipe
  FIC 1050c injectors
  Single walbro gss 342 modified
  ACT MB7HDSS clutch
  OEM Flywheel

Here are some photos of the car on the dyno.

The car was tuned on Ethanol 85. Desired boost level was 28psi. Customers desired AFR was 11.8. I spent a good amount of time meeting his needs yet still making decent power. The BBK is a nice turbo for those who want to remain stock appearing yet give up very little low end power. I would have to say it does fairly well. The turbo did great holding boost with very minimal help.

All in all I was very pleased with the outcome and end results. I am sure the owner is just as happy as I am. Thank for allowing us to tune your car Nick!

Evo OEM Stock Block 84mm FP Red/Ethanol @35psi 503hp 460tq

by Administrator 17. May 2010 22:42

Another one of our good customers returned for a tune/service. Thank you for your patience Jim, it was nice hanging out like we used to.

   Mod list is as follows:

   OEM Stock Long block
   BR Double Pumper
   BR MAF Pipe
   AMS FMIC Street Core
   ETS UICP
   ETS LICP
   PTE1200cc Injectors
   Cosworth M2 Mivec Cams
   BC Single spring kit
   ARP Headstuds
   84mm FP Red
   Skunk 2 Intake Manifold
   65mm Mil.Spec Throttle body
   Invidia 02 housing
   COBB Turboback Exhaust-test pipe
   Hallman ES manual boost controller

This car is in immaculate shape. Very clean build. As you can see this is a more common build and not flooded with BR parts. Not exactly my cup of tea but seemed to do pretty well. We were in quest for 500whp on the MD with a stock block. Seemed to be a task but with a little effort I was sure I could make it happen.

This car was tuned for 35psi on pump E85. Our goal was to keep it safe and happy. The AFR was 11.6/peak boost 35. The little Red was able to hold 30psi at 8K RPM's. Seems nice huh? All with the little $42 MBC Wink

Here is the final tune on the car. Made a couple passes after this one and it was consistent power every time.

by Administrator 11. May 2010 03:12

After all the drama and games about builds and so fourth I decided to tune one of our recent builds on Chevron pump 91 octane.

  BR battery kit
  BR fuel rail
  Kelford 272 cams
  FIC 1050 injectors
  Reese Tuning Intake Manifold Rev.3
  Reese Tuning FMIC
  Reese Tuning LICP kit
  BR Tubular HTA82
  BR TBE w magnaflow muffler
  MIL.SPEC 65mm TB
  MIL.SPEC 100 cell HFC
OEM STOCK Cylinder head, no porting.
  Exedy twin HD
  SHEP Trans
  Quiafe LSD
  Brad Penn 20w50

All work/tuning performed here @ Reese Tuning

You get the idea. A complete build. All done on the OEM Stock ECU with a MAF. This car has been one of my favorites due to the build is so clean and straight forward. Nothing but business. Just a simple build with good parts and properly setup for daily use and enjoyment.

Here is the dyno graph at 23psi. All this was done with a Hallman ES MBC. $38 dollar boost controller and Chevron 91 octane.
